Sweating Pounds Away… Literally…

Today I ran a 45 minute trail run through the Blandford Nature Center.  The distance I ran is unknown, but based on my normal pace, it was probably around 6 miles.  The shade was nice in spite of the extremely harsh weather today.  I knew I would sweat quite a bit, so I decided to conduct a one data point experiment (which Garry will appreciate).  I weighed myself nude before I left (the nude part keeps things consistent).  I ran and kept track of my fluid intake.  I showered after I was finished running and drinking and dried myself off and reweighed.  My weight was 1 pound lighter in spite of the fact that I drank 40 ounces (2.5 pounds) of fluid.  It is hot – and this is… well… one data point evidence of this “fact”.  As I write this in my home, I am still dripping with sweat… time to go reweigh!

Portage Run

I stayed at the Portage Point Inn on Friday night and on Saturday morning I did a 5.5 mile run (out and back) on Portage Point Drive.  Since this was an out and back run, I tried to run the back faster than the out.  I shaved about 1.5 minutes off on my way back in, but boy was I pooped out afterwards.

Forced to Run at Night.

I just finished a 7.6 miles back in my stomping grounds.  There are quite a few hills south of Lake Michigan Drive and I have tried to shift my runs down in that direction.  My hopes are that the hills will increase my speed on flat terrain.  Evening runs are not my preference, but sometimes life moves my ideal running times around.

Ultimate Sin…

Running on the treadmill is the ultimate sin for me and I only committed this heinous act once while on vacation, but it was necessary.  Since we were in Battle Creek visiting Binder Zoo and Cereal City I had to run at the hotel.  I ran 4.0 miles and it was so stinking boring on the treadmill.

Riding with Lance… er… Garry.

Today I Ran 5.6 hilly miles followed by a 5 mile bike ride to work.  Then, by my good fortune, I was able to ride home 9.5 miles with one of the self-proclaimed biking masters.  You may be thinking Lance, but no… even better… Garry Brand (gbexport).  Keeping up was dangerous as Garry fearlessly rode in and out of innocent pedestrians.  I was only able to ride with Garry for about 4 miles and then I had to let the master go.  Oh how I will cherish those 4 miles… forever.

I Love the Smell of Running in the Morning….

Today was a beautiful morning for running.  The shade and cool breeze made for a perfect 18 mile run.  I tried to keep my pace at about 8 minute miles so I didn’t get too worn out.  This is definitely the pace I will run if I decide to run a marathon.  Science Friday had some interesting topics to entertain me during my run.

Running While the Kids are Gone!

My wife is working and my kids are at VBS and I went for a nice 5.8 mile run.  I listened to the 7-17-06 podcast (15th Show) from Radio in Black and White.  My pastor was the guest and he did a great job.  Runs are so much better when you are listening to something informative.  Yesterday, I blame my uneventful run on the lack of entertainment in my ears!

Running Around Town

Today the weather wasn’t too bad, but I did run by a drinking fountain twice during this 4.5 mile run.  Nothing exciting happened during this run – not even any interesting thoughts went through my head.  Here is a link to my path: Running Map

What a Run!

I ran 5.2 miles this morning and due to the humidity and heat being down, it was a fantastic run (for me – it is all relative right?).  I ran about 7 minute 20 second miles through the whole run.  This alternating long runs every other week really helps my body heal after the abuse of a long run.

Water, Water, Everywhere…

During my 7.5 mile run I ran out of water.  My dehydrating run started at 10:30 am and by 11:00 am my water was gone.  This run was tough to finish.  Since this is my first summer running longer distances, I have some things to learn.  Time of day and temperature definitely affect my performance.
